Transcona has a broader mix of housing eras than most Winnipeg neighbourhoods. The older sections near Regent Avenue date back to the 1950s, with wartime and post-war bungalows that share the same electrical challenges as East Kildonan — 60-amp panels, limited circuits, and wiring that wasn’t designed for modern loads. The newer sections built through the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s are in better shape but still see panel capacity issues as homeowners add EV chargers, AC units, and workshops.
Transcona also has a working-class character that generates a lot of practical electrical work — garage wiring for workshops, outdoor outlet installations, generator hookups, and service calls for problems that need fixing, not upgrading.
Panel upgrades and service calls are the most common requests from Transcona homeowners. The older homes need capacity upgrades — a 60 or 100-amp panel to 200 amps — while the newer homes typically need circuit additions for specific loads like EV chargers, hot tubs, or workshop equipment.
Some 1960s and 1970s-era Transcona homes also have aluminum wiring, though it’s less concentrated here than in St. James or Garden City. We check for it during any service call in that era of home and recommend remediation if it’s present.
We handle panel upgrades, service calls, EV charger installation, lighting, aluminum wiring remediation, smoke and CO detectors, generator installation, and security cameras for Transcona homeowners.
Whether it’s a service call or a bigger project, reach out and we’ll take care of it.
