Electrical Service Calls in Winnipeg
Dead outlets, a breaker that keeps tripping, lights that flicker: Elton finds what is behind it and explains the fix before work goes ahead. Open daily, 7 AM to 8 PM.
An outlet in the kitchen stops working. A breaker trips every time the bathroom fan runs with the hair dryer. You flip a switch and nothing happens. These are everyday electrical problems, and an electrician service call in Winnipeg is how most of them get solved. Elton comes to the house, finds what is behind the symptom, and explains what it will take to fix.
What a service call covers
Service calls are for finding a fault. The usual list is short.
- Dead outlets and circuits. One outlet, a whole room, or a line of outlets that went quiet together.
- Breakers that trip. Once is the breaker doing its job. Again and again means something on that circuit needs tracing.
- Flickering or buzzing. Lights that dim, switches that hum, plates that feel warm.
- A DIY job that did not go to plan. It happens to careful people, and we fix it without a lecture.
- Switches, fixtures and fans that need replacing or reconnecting.
If your breaker keeps tripping, our guide to why a breaker keeps tripping in Winnipeg homes lists the common causes and what to try first.
How it works
You tell us what is happening and where. Elton looks at the circuit, tests what is going on, and finds the cause rather than patching over the symptom. Then he explains it, in words that make sense if you have never opened a panel, and tells you what the repair involves. If the answer is small, it is small. If the fault points to something bigger, such as an overloaded panel or older wiring, he says so and you decide what to do and when.
Many faults come back to a loose connection, an overloaded circuit or a worn device. Sometimes the cause is the age of the wiring in the walls. In Transcona, where almost half the homes were built before 1981, that is a fair thing to ask about, and a service call is a low-pressure way to ask.
When it is urgent
Power out in part of the house, a breaker that will not reset, or a burning smell at an outlet: call us and tell us what is happening. We are open every day from 7 AM to 8 PM and take urgent calls. If you see smoke or flame, leave the house and call 911. For a burning smell, switch off the breaker for that circuit first. If you are not sure which one it is, switch off the main.
When the repair becomes a bigger job
A service call sometimes shows that a circuit or the whole house is asking for more than it was built for. That is when other services come in:
- Electrical panel upgrade if the panel is full or tripping under normal loads.
- Home rewiring or knob and tube removal if the wiring itself is the cause.
- An electrical inspection if you want a wider look at the house.
- Lighting installation if fixtures are being replaced or added.
You never have to take any of these. The call is about the fault you have.
Houses of every age
We take service calls in older and newer homes across Winnipeg. If your home is older, our winter electrical safety guide covers what the cold months ask of the system. The residential electrician page lists the other work we do around the house.

Electrical Service Calls Questions
When should I call an electrician?
Call when an outlet or switch has stopped working, a breaker trips again after you reset it, lights flicker, or a plate feels warm or smells off. A single trip that does not repeat is usually nothing to chase. Anything that repeats or feels wrong deserves a call, and we will talk it through.
Why does my breaker keep tripping?
A breaker trips when a circuit is carrying more than it should, or when there is a fault on it. Too many things on one circuit is the usual reason. If it trips again after you unplug things, call us. Our breaker guide goes through the common causes in Winnipeg homes.
What if I smell burning near an outlet?
If you see smoke or flame, leave the house and call 911. Otherwise, switch off the breaker for that circuit and call us. If you cannot tell which breaker it is, switch off the main. Leave the outlet unused until it has been looked at. Tell us what you smelled and where when you call.
What should I have ready when I call?
Tell us what stopped working, where in the house it is, when it started and what you have already tried, such as resetting a breaker. If you know roughly when the house was built, say so. With that, Elton can tell you what he would look at first.
Can you fix electrical work someone else did?
Yes. Elton works on earlier DIY wiring and on work from other trades. He looks at what is there, explains what went wrong in plain words, and tells you what it will take to put it right. We do not judge how it got that way.
Do you take urgent calls?
Yes, call us for an urgent problem such as power out in part of the house or a breaker that will not reset. We are open every day from 7 AM to 8 PM. Tell us what is happening and we will work out the next step with you.
