Pot lights, planned before they are cut
A pot light is a hole in your ceiling, so the layout is worth getting right before anyone cuts anything. We start with the room: where people sit and work, where the shadows fall, and what is above the ceiling. Then we work out how many lights the room needs and where they go, and check the circuit that will feed them.
Two things shape the install. One is what sits above the ceiling. Where there is insulation, the housings need to be rated for it. The other is the circuit. Pot lights share a circuit with other things in the house, and that circuit has to carry the new load along with the old. If it cannot, we say so before we start, rather than after the lights are in.
We also match the dimmers to the lights. LED pot lights and the wrong dimmer produce flicker and buzzing that people blame on the lights, so it is better to choose them together.
Fixtures, fans and switches
Not every lighting job is a ceiling full of holes. Many are smaller and just as useful.
- New fixtures. Dining room, hallway, bedroom or entry, swapped for something you chose.
