New commercial construction needs electrical done right from the start. Mistakes in the rough-in stage — undersized panels, poorly planned circuit layouts, inadequate conduit runs — create problems that are expensive to fix once the drywall is up and the tenant moves in. Getting it right the first time saves everyone money and headaches down the line.
Sparxx Electrical handles commercial electrical construction projects in Winnipeg, working with general contractors and developers from the blueprint stage through to final inspection. We do the rough-in, the finish wiring, panel installations, lighting, and coordination with other trades on site.
The scope depends on the building, but most new commercial construction includes power distribution planning and main panel installation, branch circuit wiring for all outlets, equipment, and dedicated loads, lighting layout and fixture installation, emergency and exit lighting, data and communication cable pathways, fire alarm circuit wiring (if required), and parking area circuits including EV charger pre-wiring.
We work from the electrical drawings and coordinate with the architect or engineer on any field changes. If something on paper doesn’t work in practice — and it happens on every project — we flag it early and propose solutions that keep the project on track.
We start with a detailed review of the electrical drawings and a walkthrough of the site before breaking ground. This is where we catch issues — panel locations that conflict with HVAC runs, conduit routes that don’t work with the structural layout, or specifications that need updating.
During rough-in, we install all conduit, boxes, and wiring before the walls close up. We coordinate with plumbing, HVAC, and framing crews to avoid conflicts and stay on schedule. After the walls go up, we do the finish work — devices, fixtures, panels, and testing. Then we pull the City of Winnipeg permit, schedule the inspection, and hand over a clean, documented system.
On a construction site, the electrician who shows up on time, communicates clearly, and doesn’t create problems for other trades is worth their weight in copper. That’s how Elton has built Sparxx Electrical’s commercial reputation since 2019.
As early as possible — ideally during the design or pre-construction phase. The earlier we review the electrical drawings, the more issues we can catch before they become costly field changes. At minimum, we need to be on site before framing starts so we can plan conduit routes and panel locations.
Yes. Most of our commercial construction work is as an electrical subcontractor to a general contractor. We’re used to working within a GC’s schedule, attending site meetings, and coordinating with other trades.
Yes. Most commercial buildings require three-phase power distribution. We install and wire three-phase panels, transformers, and motor connections as part of the construction scope.
We always recommend sizing panels and conduit with growth in mind. Adding spare breaker capacity, running empty conduit to strategic locations, and pre-wiring for EV chargers or future equipment costs very little during construction but saves thousands later.
If you have a commercial construction project coming up in Winnipeg, get in touch early. The sooner we’re involved, the smoother the electrical goes.
