What we install
Access control hardware is a set of parts that all have to be wired and powered correctly at each controlled door:
- Readers. Card readers, fob readers and keypad entry.
- Locks. Electric strikes and magnetic locks.
- Door sensors. Door position sensors and request-to-exit devices.
- Controller. The control panel that the door hardware connects to.
We mount the hardware at each door, run the low-voltage cable between the devices and the control panel, wire the power for the locks, and connect everything to the controller. For each door, we look at the door and frame to see how the lock hardware will go in and where power can reach it.
Planning your doors
The doors you want to control shape the whole system, so we go through them with you:
- Which doors. Front entrance, back door, server room, storage, a warehouse bay.
- Both directions or one. A door that needs a card to enter but opens freely from inside uses a request-to-exit device.
- Who needs which door, and when. That is the vendor’s job to configure, but it affects how many readers and locks you buy.
- Where the controller will go. It needs a dedicated circuit and a protected spot.
In a multi-tenant building, the main entrance and each tenant’s door are often separate systems. We talk with the property manager about which doors are shared and which belong to individual tenants, so the wiring follows the plan.
Who sets up the system
We install the hardware, and the configuration is usually handled by your access control vendor or your IT team. Users, cards and schedules get set up there, in the system rather than in the wiring. We work with them so the hardware is installed to their specifications. That keeps the install from stalling because the wiring does not match what the system expects.
Why a licensed electrician for access control
Access control is low-voltage wiring, but it connects to building power at the lock hardware. Electric strikes and magnetic locks need power, and the control panel needs a dedicated circuit. When an electrician handles all of it, there is one contractor for the cable and the power, fewer trades on site, and less back-and-forth when something needs attention.

Do you set up the cards and user list?
We install the hardware: the readers, locks, wiring and power. Setting up users, cards and schedules is usually handled by the access control vendor or your IT team. We coordinate with them so the hardware goes in to their specifications and the system is ready for them to configure.
Should I use cards, fobs or keypads?
It depends on how your people use the door. Cards and fobs can be turned off for one person without changing anything else. Keypads need no card to carry but codes get shared. We install any of them, and your vendor can help you choose the type that suits the building.

The readers are low-voltage, but the locks, the control panel and the power supply connect to building power. Electric strikes and magnetic locks need power at the door, and the controller needs a dedicated circuit. An electrician does the low-voltage cable and the power side together.
